Seoul Seokgwanjoong has been crowned the “throne” of the 2023 Geumgangdae National Middle School Football Tournament, a tournament where Korean soccer dreamers are discovered.
In particular, Seoul Seokgwanjoong, which lost to Seoul Mokdongjoong in the final of the Geumgangdae U14 Youth Cup last year, drew attention by meeting again in the final of the tournament and succeeding in fulfilling their desire.
The ‘2023 Geumgangdae National Middle School Football Tournament,’ organized by the Gangwon-do Minjaeil and the Korea Football Association and sponsored by Hiwon Resort, concluded with the final (U15) at the Jinbu-myeon Min Sports Park Soccer Field in Pyeongchang on the 6th, and Seoul Seokgwanjoong won the title with a 2-1 victory over Seoul Mokdongjoong.
This is the first title for Seokgwanjoong in the tournament. Mokdongjoong had previously defeated Seokgwanjoong 2-0 in the final of the Geumgangdae U14 Youth Cup last year.
The two teams met again a year later at the senior level and the winner was reversed after a hard-fought match.
Mokdongjoong was aiming for a third consecutive U14 Youth Cup title this year, four years after winning the title in 2019, but fell short.
Earlier, in the final of the 2023 Geumgangdae Secondary U14 Youth Cup on May 5, Seoul Mokdongjoong defeated Gyeonggi Yongin Football Center U14 2-0 to win their third consecutive title.
In the 27th minute of the first half, Mokdongjoong’s Cho Soo-hwan fought off two defenders in the box and shot the ball upwards.
He then caught the ball again and shot, which hit a defender’s foot and flowed to the right, where Mokdongjoong’s Park Yi-sung scored the first goal with his left foot.
Mok Dong-joong continued to control the game in the second half. Mokdongjoong’s Kim Min-jun also scored the tournament’s wonder goal.
